There are no safeguards for human life in the Harbin Women's Jail. People's dignity is routinely trampled upon, and their fundamental human rights are treated with utter contempt. Falun Gong practitioners are forced to work seventeen to eighteen hours of hard labor each day.

1. Ms. Dong Limin, 董丽敏, female, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Heilongjiang Province. On May 22, 2002, she was arrested and sentenced to 14 years in jail. She was persecuted so severely in the Harbin Women's Jail that her face became pale and swollen. Her family strongly requested that she be sent to the hospital, but their request was denied.
   
2. Ms. Wu Yulan, 吴玉兰, female, 68, is a practitioner from Harbin City. She was hung up and beaten until she lost consciousness. She was deprived of sleep for four days and nights. Group leader Zhang Xiaoying tried many different ways to torture Ms. Wu and also instigated other inmates, including Ren Haiyan, Hua Chunjie, Shan Yuqin, and Liu Xiyue, to torture her.
   
3. Ms. Xiao Shufen, 肖淑芬, female, was beaten by inmate Liu Xiyue so severely that she could not bear it anymore and tried to commit suicide. However, at the last minute, someone saved her.
   
4. Ms. Zhang Qiurong, 张秋荣, female, was beaten until she developed a mental disorder.
   
5. Ms. Liu Shufen, 刘淑芬, female, 31, is a practitioner from Chengfengzhuang, Ranghulu District, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. She was sentenced to eight years in jail starting on September 16, 2002. During her detention in Section 1 of the Harbin Women's Jail, she has been tortured with several cruel torture methods, such as being confined to a small cell, hung up with hands cuffed behind the back, and the “big hang-up.” She has been on a hunger strike since June 6, 2005, in Section 7 of the Harbin Women's Jail. 6. Ms. Zhang Li, 张丽, female, is a practitioner from Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. She was sent to the Harbin Women's Jail in 2003. She is detained in Section 7. She has been on hunger strike since September 20, 2005. Her husband, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Pan Xingfu, died from persecution in January 2005. Their six-year-old son Pan Yongqiao (潘永侨) now lives with Ms. Zhang's mother-in-law.
   
7. Ms. Wang Yuzhuo, 王玉卓, female, was severely tortured in Section 9 of the Harbin Women's Jail. She was just transferred to Section 8. The letters her family wrote to her were all confiscated and she was not allowed to get the money her family sent her.

9. Ms. Huang Yanzhen, 黄彦珍, female, is a practitioner from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province. She was beaten by the guards and other inmates, including He Yingjie, Li Guixiang, Hua Chunjie, and Wang Xinhua. She was forcibly injected with drugs to treat a “mental disorder.” She was also detained in the brainwashing section on the third floor of the jail.
   
10. Ms. Zeng Fenglian, 曾凤莲, female, near 50, is a practitioner from Fuyu County, Heilongjiang Province. In August 2004, she was sentenced to eight years in jail and sent to Harbin Women's Jail. She is now detained in Section 2. Due to the severe torture she received, Ms. Zeng is not able to walk without help. Her son Mr. Zuo Chuanxin (左传新) is jobless because he practices Falun Gong.
    
11. Ms. Qin Shuzhen, female, 44, was a teacher at the Shuangyashan Refinery Day Care Center, Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. Ms. Qin was sentenced to seven years in jail and has been detained in the Harbin Women's Jail since July 10, 2003. She has suffered all kinds of torture, including beatings, forced-feeding, and being locked in a small cell.
    
12. Ms. Gao Guizhen, female, was born on August 9, 1953. Her home is at the Jidianchang Residency District, Beishan Street, Xinxing District, Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province. She was sentenced to four years in jail and transferred from the Qitaihe City No. 1 Detention Center to the Harbin Women's Jail on April 2, 2003.
    
13. Ms. Zhao Xin, 赵欣, female, 32, is a practitioner from Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province. She was sent to the Harbin Women's Jail in September 2002. She suffered from all kinds of torture, including beatings, forced-feeding, and being locked in a small cell.
    
14. Ms. Xu Shufen, 许淑芬, female, 45, is a resident of Nianzishan, Qiqihaer City, Heilongjiang Province. She was sent to the Harbin Women's Jail in 2002 and is now detained in Section 5. The guards and inmates severely beat her. Her vagina and legs were swollen and covered with bruises because of the torture.
    
15. Ms. Wang Yan, 王雁, female, from Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province, was a teacher at the College of Engineering, Bayi Agricultural University. On March 3, 2003, she was sent to the Harbin Women's Jail. She was force-fed, hung up for 48 hours, and locked in a small cell.
    
16. Ms. Yu Fengrong, 于凤荣, female, is from Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province. She was brutally tortured and was locked up and left on the floor for 13 days and nights while she was on a hunger strike.
    
17. Ms. Liu Lihua, 刘丽华, female, 36, is a resident of Building 3, Gongshang Residency District, Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province. She is an employee of the Mudanjiang Textile Factory. On September 8, 2003, she was sent to the Harbin Women's Jail. In March 2004, she was locked up in a small cell for 11 days. On January 1, 2005, she was tied up on an iron bed for 11 hours.
    
18. Ms. Shi Fengli, 史凤丽, female, is from Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province and is now detained at the Harbin Women's Jail.
    
19. Ms. Wang Ye, 王晔, female, is an employee of the University of Mudanjiang. On August 13, 2002, she was sentenced and is now being held at the Harbin Women's Jail.
    
20. Ms. Wang Hongzhou, 王宏州, lives at Apartment 701, Unit 1, of the Hailin City Audit Bureau. She is an employee of No. 2 Carpentry Factory, Hailin City Forestry Bureau. She is now detained at the Harbin Women's Jail.

Released Victim:

1. Ms. Xie Xiuying, 谢秀英, is a practitioner from Puyang Farm, Suibin County, Heilongjiang Province. She was sentenced to three years of detention in Harbin Women’s Jail. At the end of 2003, prison guard Xiao Lin ruthlessly kicked Xie Xiuying while torturing her. Her left leg became swollen from her calf to her thigh as a result of being kicked. The prison guards took her to No. 2 Hospital in Harbin for a medical examination, forcing her family members to deposit 5,000 Yuan for medical treatment and saying that her leg might need to be amputated. Ms. Xie Xiuying refused the amputation.

   The injury on Xie Xiuying's left leg festered.
