Illustrations of Torture Methods:
The toothbrushes used in the actual tortures have much flatter handles than the ones in the photographs. The perpetrators insert a toothbrush with a flat handle between two of the victim’s fingers. One perpetrator makes sure that the tortured practitioner's fingers clench the toothbrush firmly while another perpetrator uses both hands to keep rotating the toothbrush until all the flesh in contact with the toothbrush is abraded to the point where the finger bones are exposed. Mr. Cheng Wei成为 was subjected to this torture while being detained in the Second Division of the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing.

The torturers at the forced labor camps often bind detained Falun Gong practitioners to a ladder, forcing them to "sit parallel on the ladder" for extended periods of time. Not having access to a ladder, we demonstrated the torture using a board instead. The perpetrators seal practitioners' mouths with tape to muffle their agonizing cries. They also bind practitioners' hands behind their backs and use the tape to force their heads forward with their chins against their chests. Jiang Wenlai, the Head of the Second Division and Ni Zhenxiong often use this method to torture practitioners.
A Special Case of Mr. Bai Shaohua:
Mr. Bai Shaohua, 白少华, his brother, 34, whose hometown is in Huanan County, Jilin Province, obtained his Bachelor's degree from the Renmin University of China in Beijing.

Mr. Bai Shaohua
| He worked at the Beijing Xin'aote Group, Ltd. He was arrested and detained many times for practicing Falun Gong. In the Tuanhe Labor Camp, he was deprived of sleep. From 5 a.m. to midnight, he was not allowed to leave the "small stool" except for bathroom breaks and was forced to read materials slandering Falun Gong. In spite of this treatment, he was sent to an intensive torture group, where he was tortured for more than two months, as a result he became quite emaciated. After released, the local authorities monitored and followed him. In September 25, 2005, they arrested him again. He is detained at the Tuanhe Labor Camp.

Mr. Bai Xiaojun,
the brother of Mr. Bai Shaohua
| Mr. Bai Xiaojun 白晓钧, 35 years old, was tortured to death at the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp in Jilin Province on July 18, 2003.
Mr. Bai Shaohua and Mr. Bai Xiaojun's mother, in her 70s, is a retired music teacher. She was arrested many times for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to people. Because of the stress and maltreatment in detention, she even lost her eyesight for a period of time. Mr. Bai Shaohua's father was a member of the Chinese Calligraphy Association. Victim List:
- Ms. Zhou Xiuzhi 周秀芝, female, 45, resident of Beijing, was arrested on May 03, 2005. She was sentenced to two years of forced labor. She is still detained at the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
- Mr. Li Yuejin 李跃进, male, resident of Beijing, was arrested on March 5, 2005. He is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp. He was deprived of sleep for a long time. He also suffered heart disease and almost lost his vision in one eye.
- Ms. Yang Xiuzhi 杨秀芝, female, in her 60s, resident of the Yanjiao Area, Sanhe City, Hebei Province, mother of three children, was arrested in early 2005 when she visited her second daughter in Beijing. She is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
- Mr. Cao Zhicheng 曹志成, male, resident of Fentai District, Beijing, is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp, even though his term has expired.
- Mr. Guo Zhenge 郭振阁, male, in his 40s, is a resident of East Mountain Changshouling, Yanqing County, Beijing. On November 15, 2004, he went to the local government to deliver a public letter asking them to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. On January 30, 2005, he was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labor. He is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp where he is deprived of sleep and tortured. In May 2005, he was locked in a warehouse where Guards Li Wei and Guo Jianguo beat him. Ms. Guo suffered mental disorder after the torture.
- Mr. Liu Xiaofeng 刘晓峰, male, 28, graduated from the Art Design College of Qinghua University. He is a resident of Shandong Province, and is detained in the Third Division of the Tuanhe Labor Camp. He was forced to sit in one fixed position on a small stool for an extended period. After doing so, his buttocks festered.
- Mr. Li Wei 李伟, male, in his 40’s, a graduate student pursuing a master's degree in French at Beijing Foreign Language University, was a resident of Sichuan Province. He worked at the Foreign Literature Institution of the Chinese Social Science Academy. In September 2002, he was sentenced to two and a half years of forced labor. However in March 2005, his term was extended for another three months. He is detained in the Seventh Division of the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
- Mr. Qi Guangran 齐广然, male, in his 50s, secretary of the Party committee of the Miyun Food Products Company, Miyun County, Beijing, is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp. When he was forced to sit in a fixed position on a small stool for an extended period, his buttocks festered. His legs were swollen due to long term forced standing.
- Mr. Qu Baoliang 屈宝良, male, was a Secondary Rank Police Officer at the Chongwen Police Station, Beijing. He was arrested in 2004. He is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp. He was forced to sit in a fixed position on a small stool for an extended period. As a result, his buttocks festered.
- Mr. Li Jian 李健, male, in his 40s, resident of Xicheng District, Beijing, is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp. He was locked in a small cell and forced to sit in a fixed position on a small stool for an extended period. His buttocks festered as a result.
- Mr. Zhao Cheng 赵臣, male, in his 40s, a teacher at the Beijing Foreign Language University, is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
- Mr. Shi Lei 石磊, male, was a policeman in Beijing. He is detained in the First Division of the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
- Mr. Tu Changfu 屠长富, male, is a resident of Donggezhuang Village, West Tiangezhuang Town, Miyun County, Beijing. On March 24, 2005, he was sentenced two and a half years of forced labor. He is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
- Mr. Zheng Bailin 郑百林, male, is a resident of Donggezhuang Village, West Tiangezhuang Town, Miyun County, Beijing. On March 24, 2005, he was sentenced two and a half years of forced labor. He is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
- Ms. Wang Huaijin 王怀金, female, 47, resident of East Zhaitang Village, Zhaitang Township, Mentougou District, Beijing, was arrested on August 22, 2004. She is detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp.
Released Victim:
Mr. Ding Guowang丁国旺, male, 60, worked at the Chemical Fertilizer Plant in Xiangcheng City, Henan Province. He was arrested in Beijing in September 2001. He was detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp for one and half years, where they forced him to take unknown drugs and injections. At the time of his release on March 11, 2003, he was extremely weak and was no longer mentally alert. His speech had become incoherent and incomprehensible, and he could no longer take care of himself. |
