...On January 25, 2000, not long after the persecution began on July 20, 1999, Ms. Yu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She has been missing ever since.

Five years have passed, but no one has any information about Ms. Yu. Her family has tried to find her in all of the Beijing prisons and detention centers, but the police have not provided any information.

Victim:

Ms. Yu Guiping, female, 60, resident of Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, former employee of the Research Institute of Educational Sciences, located in Gansu Province.

Time and location the victim was last seen:

Ms. Guiping was last seen on January 25, 2000, at her home.

Brief Description:

Ms. Yu Guiping
started practicing Falun Gong in 1998 and her health dramatically improved. Before Ms. Yu practiced Falun Gong, she had stomach surgery and was in poor health. She stayed in bed throughout the year, and suffered tremendously. She had to take long-term sick leave from her work. According to her own description, Ms. Yu did not even have the strength to lift a teakettle. After she began practicing, she was able to take care of herself and help with household work. She was also able to work part-time. A short time later, she resumed full time work. Her family environment returned to one of happiness and warmth. With restored health, Ms. Yu was cheerful and optimistic. There was one instance in which she joined a trip sponsored by her work unit. She was even able to carry bags for her colleagues. When her colleagues observed her lively and positive outlook and good health, they all commended the miracle of Falun Gong. Ms. Yu told people, "Falun Gong has given me a second life."
