Ms. Yang Suhong, a 24 year-old woman, lived in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. She was physically handicapped. She was only four feet tall and weighed 50 pounds. At the age of eight, she acquired various long-term diseases, including tubercular-peritonitis, leukemia, and other illnesses. She was diagnosed with final-stage bone cancer. In February 1998, after she started practicing Falun Gong her body and mind changed dramatically. Gradually, all her illness symptoms vanished and she was able to enjoy life again.
In July 1999 the government started to persecute Falun Gong. Because Ms. Yang refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, the local authorities and police station constantly persecuted her by ransacking her home, interrogating her, imprisoning her, and subjecting her to various other forms of harassment.
On November 30, 2004, police from the National Security Department in Xishan District, Kunming City abducted Ms. Yang, and then took her to the Yunnan Province Women's Labor Camp, where she underwent forced brainwashing. Nevertheless, she persisted in refusing to give up Falun Gong. In the labor camp, despite her disabled condition, she was forced to do physical labor as other prisoners. She was tortured until she became emaciated and was on the brink of death. In May 2005, Ms. Yang was finally sent home. Just over one month after her release, she died on the afternoon of June 2005.
