Police Brutally Beat Mr. Wang Weihe and His Family and Sent Them to a Mental Hospital for Torture
Print  E-mail

Mr. Wang Weihe, male, a resident of Madian Township, Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province. Mr. Wang's wife Ms. Fa Xiufang, Mr. Wang’s son, Mr. Wang Mingjian, and Mr. Wang’s daughter, Ms. Wang Ping, are all Falun Gong practitioners.

On July 22, 1999, Mr. Wang and his family went to Beijing to appeal for an end of persecution of Falun Gong. They were later arrested and sent to a police station in Beijing. Police guard Du Zhongxiang from the Jiaozhou City Agency in Beijing brutally tortured Mr. Wang's son, Mr. Wang Mingjian. He chained him to a tree and kicked him with heavy boots. Du Zhongxiang then whipped him with a belt.

The police confiscated all of their money, and Mr. Wang and his family were then escorted back to the Madian Town Police Station. They were shackled to a bed and not allowed to eat, drink, use the restroom or sleep. Later, they were sent to a "homeless shelter." These are Nandan Village's few ramshackle rooms, each of which is smaller than 12 square meters. Seventeen people were locked in these rooms, with no choice but to use the same space for a restroom as well as for sleeping and eating. Meals consisted of a little bread and some pickled vegetables. Even so, they were each charged 50 RMB Yuan per day for the room. They were frequently beaten or verbally abused. They were finally released at the end of December 1999. By that time, the amount of money everyone lost to the police amounted to thousands of Yuan.

On February 10, 2000, Mr. Wang and his family went to Beijing to appeal again. They were arrested and escorted back to their hometown and taken to the Village Committee office. The Madian town vice secretary, Wang Xuehao, along with the Nantan village secretary Dong Fenggang, took Mr. Wang Weihe's daughter Ms. Wang Ping into a room and beat her. After that, the family was sent to Madian Town Police Station. Mr. Wang and his daughter were dragged into separate rooms for torture. Wang Xuehao beat Mr. Wang, while Police Chief Zhou Wei beat Ms. Wang Ping. Wang Xuehao ordered Mr. Wang to sit on the concrete floor and put his legs out straight, with his hands in the air, to make it easier for them to punch and kick him. When Wang Xuehao got tired, he sat down on the chair to take a rest and then resumed the beating until Mr. Wang lost consciousness.

Not wanting to take responsibility for Mr. Wang’s physical condition, Wang Xuehao ordered others to drag him back to the Village Committee office. After Mr. Wang regained consciousness, Dong Fenggang continued to torture him by kicking him in the ribs with leather boots until he lost consciousness again. The severe beating left Mr. Wang feeling great pain all over his body. He could not eat for six days and even had a hard time breathing. Seven days later, he was sent back to the Madian Town Police Station and detained there for three months. Mr. Wang's daughter suffered a lot too. Zhou Wei forced her to stand like a horse, and used a poker to beat all her joints, until her joints and bones became swollen, with unbearable pain.

Three months later, Mr. Wang, his wife and his children, all with no previous history of mental illness, were sent to a mental hospital for further torture. They were forcibly given an injection of an unknown drug. A hospital staff member, Yang Chenchao, kicked Mr. Wang onto the floor, kicked him around, dragged him by the legs into the hall, and then dragged him back and forth. He bound Mr. Wang to a metal bed, beat him and gave him an injection. He then continued torturing Mr. Wang, followed by another injection, until he gave him seven injections over the course of eleven hours. At quitting time, they finally untied Mr. Wang who was left in a vegetative state, unable to even take care of himself. When he opens his mouth, he drools. Even with Mr. Wang in this condition, Yang Chenchao continued to beat him three times over the course of several days.

To force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their belief, the mental hospital administers electro-shock treatment to torture practitioners. During the torture, the practitioner is bound to a bed, and is connected to an electrical current that starts out low and steadily increases, eventually causing the whole body to go into convulsions. The convulsions are so severe that the practitioners’ internal organs seize violently, causing the victim to scream in pain. The torturers are known to simply laugh in response.

Mr. Wang’s family later was sent to the Zhang Jiatun prison for detention. In 2001, Mr. Wang's son and daughter tore down a poster that slandered Falun Gong. The vice secretary of Madian Town Politics and Law Committee Liu Xuedong then tortured the son using the "big back handcuff"[1] (a torture device) for more than four hours. The young man's face became pale, and he dripped sweat onto the floor around him. He was released only when he was tortured nearly to death. Mr. Wang's daughter was placed outdoors under a tree in the freezing cold for an entire night.

[1] The “Big Back Handcuff”: One hand is pulled over the shoulder to the back, which the other hand is twisted behind the back near the waist. The hands are handcuffed together and a bottle or board is inserted between the arms and back, which tightens the handcuffs against the skin and causes bleeding. This torture causes intense pain.
