Ms. Yuan Lin, female, a faculty member at the Beijing University Graduate School, was detained because she printed Falun Gong flyers. During her detention, she went on a hunger strike to protest the detention. Authorities then sent her to the Beijing Police Hospital, in April 2002, for force-feeding. Using a tube that ran from her nose to her stomach, the guards force-fed her with so much food that it exceeded her stomach capacity, causing excruciating pain.
After she was sent back to the detention center, they chained one of her feet to her bed. She was released to use the restroom only once each day. One time she refused to be chained, so the guards not only shackled her feet, but also handcuffed her such that her arms were stretched above her head and she could only lie on her back; the apparatus tightened whenever she tried to move or turn her body. She was forced to remain in this position for three days and nights. Her hands became numb, and the soreness and pain all over her body were extreme. She was tortured like this three times.
