Brief Description:
In September 1999, Ms. Zhang Meimei went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. In November 1999, she was detained in the Jiangbei District Detention Center, Chongqing City for one month. In March 2000, Ms. Zhang went to Tiananmen Square to appeal again and was detained in the Shimen Detention Center, Chongqing City. After she managed to escape and return home, one of her family members reported her to the police, and she was sentenced to one year of forced labor at the Maojiashan Women’s Labor Camp. Although her term was finished earlier, she was not released until the end of 2001. After she returned home, a fellow practitioner went to visit her. Ms. Zhang said that the local police were planning to send her to a brainwashing center. In April 2003, she was expected to meet with another practitioner in Chongqing, but she never showed up. Since then, no one has ever seen or heard from her again.

Ms. Zhang’s husband and relatives has tried to locate her but they has not been able to find her and has heard nothing from her. She has now been missing for more than two years.
