Ms. Zhang Zhongrong, female, from Group 2, Qishu Village, Yangjia Town, Jingyang District, Deyang City, Sichuan Province was tortured to death around 6 p.m. on August 26, 2002 at the age of 33.  The story of her death is as follows:

Shortly after 1 p.m. on August 26, Ms. Zhang Zhongrong and her husband were harvesting crops when police officers from Yangjia Town Police Department arrived and took her away despite the couple’s pleas. Her husband Zeng Daobing was extremely frightened and went into hiding.

Ms. Zhang was taken to the government building but she was worried about her husband and child. She told the Party Secretary, head of town and the head of the police department about her difficult family situation and asked that they give her a few more days to take care of affairs at home. The perpetrators said in unison, “You have to pay 2,000 yuan and attend the 10-day brainwashing class first before you can go home and harvest the crops.”

She was frustrated and cried. They tried to force her to stomp and spit on Falun Gong founder’s picture and curse Falun Gong.  Ms. Zhang said, “Falun Gong exercise helped my health, how can I insult Him?” She firmly refused them.

After 6 p.m. on August 26, Falun Gong practitioner Zhu Taiju saw Ms. Zhang Zhongrong lying lifeless in the hallway outside the conference room in the government building, Ms. Zhang was died.

The authorities conducted an autopsy and cremated Ms. Zhang’s body. Since Ms. Zhang’s death, her husband has suffered a mental collapse. Their crops are left unattended and their family is in a very difficult situation. Their son is living alone and he is having a hard time paying for his tuition.
