Mr. Sun Qian, male, 33 years of age, was from Fushun City, Liaoning Province. He went to Beijing twice to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in 2000. On October 10, 2002, Sun Qian was arrested because he had posted banners explaining the persecution of Falun Gong, and also helped to produce Falun Gong informational materials. He was interrogated under torture, sentenced to nine years in prison, detained in Fushun City Second Detention Center. He was tortured both mentally and physically.

In the fall of 2003, Mr. Sun Qian was transferred to the Twentieth Ward, Second Prison in Shenyang City Prison Block. He refused to cooperate with the brainwashing. In the end, the abuse left him in the critical condition and developed tuberculosis and pleurisy, and was sent to hospital after he passed out.

In order to avoid being held responsible, the prison finally sent him home.  Three days later, Mr. Sun Qian died, on March 15, 2005.
