In October 2001, Ms. Yang Chongyu went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. She was arrested and escorted back to Wenjiang County, Sichuan Province where she was detained for one month in the Wenjiang County Detention Center. Later, Ms. Yang was transferred to the Wanchun Town Mental Hospital. There she was forcefully given medicine  and injected with many different kinds of tranquilizers. Every night, the nurses would push an instrument against the top of her head to stimulate her nervous system and thus force her to sleep. Li Liangshen, the head of the Wenjiang County Property Tax Bureau told Ms. Yang’s husband  at the hospital that Yang would be allowed to go home only if she wrote a statement  renouncing Falun Gong.
