On July 9, 2003, police arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Huang Liping from Wuhan City, Hubei Province for persisting in her practice of Falun Gong. She was taken to the Dongsihu Women's Detention Center in Wuhan City, where she was savagely tortured. The guards injured her throat and vocal cords during a punitive force-feeding. Food went into one of her lungs, causing violent coughing. Within a week, she was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment. She was later transferred to the Hewan Forced Labor Camp in Wuhan City and was given injections for a chronic cough. Three months later Ms. Huang was released on medical parole and sent to a hospital. An X-ray revealed necrosis of one lung except for a small part the size of a ping-pong ball. She often choked on her food. Ms. Huang gradually developed fibrosis of that lung and her voice became hoarse.
After she left the labor camp, she was forced to leave her home to avoid additional persecution, and she lived a precarious existence. The major parts of her lungs became web-like and were covered with dead tissue, and she could not eat or drink normally. Ms. Huang died on May 4, 2005. type=case, death;type=case, women;type=Labor Camp, Hewan Forced Labor Camp; type=Detention Center, Dongsihu Women's Detention Center; location=Hubei,Wuhan |
