Ms. Wang Shujie, female, 49 years old, lived on Dongsheng Street, Hongmei Town, Meihekou City, Jilin Province. She was cured of numerous illnesses after she started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. After the persecution began in July 1999, she went to Beijing twice to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was subsequently sent to a detention center. In December 1999, Ms. Wang was sentenced to one year of forced labor and was held at the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp, where she was ruthlessly tortured. Four guards shocked her simultaneously with electric batons. She rolled down the stairs and lost consciousness. The guards drove a metal needle into the middle finger on her left hand and never removed it.

 They also tied her to the “Death Bed”  with her hands cuffed above her head to the bed rails and her legs tied with thin nylon rope. The rope was then tightly wrapped around her body and the bed, from her legs to her chest. The rope was wrapped so tightly that she had difficulty breathing and eventually she lost consciousness.

Around July, 2000, Wang Shujie's family took her home. Authorities from the local government, the police department, the Street Committee and her work unit pressured, monitored, harassed and threatened her on a daily basis. As a result, Wang Shujie suffered a nervous breakdown. She fell into a river and drowned on October 8, 2000.
