Mr. Zhou Dehong, male, 78, was a resident of Quankou Village, Lanlong Township in Hengyang County, Henan Province. On June 18, 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. Because he held up a banner on Tiananmen Square, the police kicked and beat him on the spot. They used high voltage electric batons to shock him all over his body. Immediately, blood poured from this elderly man's mouth. He became dizzy and almost fainted. They brought him to the Tiananmen police precinct. The police there once again violently beat this elderly man. His right eye was beaten so badly that it became a swollen bump. There were many bruises on his face and his chest was badly injured. After being sent to Hengyang administrative liaison office in Beijing to be detained for three days, he was taken back to Hengyang County, and detained for another 15 days. Furthermore, he was fined 5,500 Yuan. After he was released, Mr. Zhou stayed at home to recuperate. He suffered constant pain in his swollen chest and he often vomited blood. He could not eat properly. His condition continued to worsen. Mr. Zhou Dehong finally died at 5:30 p.m. on December 6, 2003. type=case, death;location=Beijing |
