A 16-Year-Old Forced into Slave Labor in Prison
Print  E-mail

Victim:

Mr. Yang Shuguang, a 16-year-old and also a Falun Gong practitioner, is from Wutai Village, Shancheng County, Henan Province.

The Perpetrators:

Deputy Prison Warden: Ma Tie

Team Supervisors: Ye Hongji, Ding Changyou

Prison Staff: Zhou Zhiheng, Yuan Guoli, Yang Linyong, Chang Xuchang, Sheng Jie, Ma Yunfeng, Jiao Baoxuan, Li Gang, Zhang Zhihui, Gao Yandao, Wang Shuaishi, Fan Weimin, Song Wenfeng

Brief Description:

On February 2005, the police from Shancheng County Police Station arrested him and sent him to the Henan Second Prison in the Luoyang District of Henan Province because his practicing Falun Gong. Yang Shuguang has since been forced to do the hard labor in the prison.

Just a day after their arrival at Henan Second Prison, prison officials Mao Zhenjing and Li Shupeng directed several prison staff members to pin them down, while pried the practitioners’ mouths open with a screwdriver. Some practitioners’ noses were also pinched closed so that they could not breathe. Officer Li Jianbing stepped on their chests while torturing.

Since March 6, 2005, Yang and other practitioners have been forced to work in a hot furnace room to produce steel. The twelve-hour shifts exceed the maximum number of hours that prison labor is allowed to work. They were not provide with enough food and refusal to work is met with beatings by the supervisors using thick wooden boards, as well with the imposition of additional brainwashing session (designed to “reform” the practitioners). Many practitioners have bruises all over their bodies from severe beatings, yet they are still forced to work in the furnace room.

Prison staff and supervisors have also been known to arbitrarily tie practitioners up and shock them with electric batons.

The practitioners must get up at 6:00 a.m. to start their daily tasks. A large series of cleaning tasks must be performed once or twice daily, and beatings meet those who do not complete their work. Attendance is taken in the dining area before and after each of the three mealtimes. The meager meals consist of highly diluted rice in boiled water or small portions of carrot and cabbage soup. Since only a small portion of the monthly stipend allocated to each prisoner is used for their upkeep, most of those who could not receive money that their families sent for additional food are starving. Those who are able to buy items have to pay highly inflated prices for poor quality goods. The working day usually finishes at 9:00 or 10:00 p.m.

Henan Second Prison, a slave labor camp where innocent people are routinely tortured, is clearly no place for a 16-year-old, especially one who himself has committed no crime, nor has formally been charged.
