Despite the fact that he is very weak, Cheng Peiming's legs are still shackled to the hospital bed

Since the persecution started in July 1999, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cheng Peiming (from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province) has been tortured while being detained at different places: Hengshan Detention Center in Jixi City, Hongxing Village Police Station at Jiguan District in Jixi City, Criminal Police Brigade of Public Security Bureau at Jiguan District, Jixi City First Detention Center, Harbin Prison and Daqing Prison.

From July 20, 1999 to February 2000, Cheng Peiming was detained in Shandong Province, Beijing, Hengshan Detention Center in Jixi City, where he suffered from severe beating.

On May 11, 2001, the police of Hongxing Village Police Station in Jiguan District of Jixi City brutally beat up Cheng Peiming; then they sent him to the Public Security Bureau at Jiguan District of Jixi City, where he was subjected to torture for more than 30 hours consecutively. The torture methods included: (1) “Make numbness” whereby four policemen used their hands to forcefully scrub and pinch his inner thigh area and armpit area, causing much pain. (2) Police used a belt clip and hard prongs to scratch his ribs and nipples. While Cheng Peiming told them that their criminal deeds would bring them retribution, the police brazenly said, “Our happiness is built up on your pain.” (3) “Spaceship hat”: police covered his head with a plastic bag, put a steel helmet on his head, and then hit the helmet with a hammer. The torture caused damage to his brain. (4) “Tiger Bench”: handcuffs and shackles where put on him to tightly tie him to a bench.

On May 13, 2001, Cheng Peiming was sent to Jixi City First Detention Center and detained there until April 10, 2002. Once he was locked in a confinement cell. The police incited criminals to beat him up. Policeman Zhang Yiding used electric batons to shock him on his mouth and penis for three days. The torture caused Cheng Peiming to lose control of his bladder, and his skin became yellowish. He was forced to put on the heaviest shackles and he was handcuffed. Deputy Chief Zhang Yi ordered a criminal to insert a very stinky sock into Cheng Peiming’s mouth and to spit on his face. At another time, a policeman and a criminal dragged him in front of a window, stripped him, and then threw a big cat onto him. The cat’s claws ripped open his flesh.

From April 10, 2002 to July 1, 2004 the Harbin police were even crueler. They ordered four criminals to torture Cheng Peiming. The criminals are: Zhang Xiaofeng, Zhang Yong, Zhang Kejun and Zhang Jie.

On January 15, 2003 in the confinement cell, criminal Zhang Yong stuffed Cheng Peiming’s mouth with a towel, and said, “Cheng Peiming, if you dare enough, you will take what we will do to you. If you die, the government will be on our side.” They used fingers to poke his eyes, squeezed his testicles, grabbed and rubbed his ribs, kicked his heart area and back, and hit both his ears. In the night they found that Cheng Peiming was on the verge of death. They sent him to the hospital for emergency. The policemen Huang Zhiming, Zhang Jiushan and Lin Bo had instructed the criminals to do the torture.

On July 1, 2004, Cheng Peiming was transferred to Daqing Prison. In the afternoon of November 16, 2004, the handcuffs that Mr. Chen was hanging from broke and he fell to the floor. At this point, Mr. Cheng could not bear the abuse and suffering any longer.  In desperation and to protest the persecution, as soon as he stood up, he knocked his head against the glass cell door, resulting in a 4-cm-long laceration on his head. He then cut his wrists with the broken glass. He also tried to swallow a razor blade and an iron nail. He then lost consciousness and fell to the floor. The following photos were brought out from Daqing Prison through the information blockade.
