Ms. Wang Ping, female, 56, is a resident of Chengguan Town, Yueyang County, Hunan Province. She was arrested in May 2003 because she distributed Falun Gong materials. She was detained at the Pingjiang County Detention Center for nearly two months.
On May 23, 2003, authorities of Yueyang County's National Security Division, Guo Shengxiang and another person, interrogated Ms. Wang. Since Ms. Wang refused to tell them the source of the Falun Gong materials, Guo grabbed her hair and slammed her head into a wall for nearly ten minutes; the other person then beat and kicked her. Ms. Wang’s head became covered with lumps and her eye sockets turned black. Even after a week, the scars and lumps were still there.
One day, guard Yu Deming cursed at Ms. Wang and ordered her to stand up. Since Ms. Wang refused to cooperate with him, Yu and three male inmates beat her. They hit her all over with their fists, shoes, and other things so brutally that she vomited blood. Her whole body turned black and blue and she became temporarily deaf. She did not recover her hearing until more than one month later. After the beating, Yu put Ms. Wang in handcuffs and heavy shackles that are usually used for criminals on death row. He threatened Ms. Wang that he would cuff her for a week, or until she is dead, if she did not obey him.
During the two months of torture, Ms. Wang was on the verge of death. She is now extremely weak and suffering from whole-body edema.
