1. Miao Limin, female, over 40,
resident of Shihe Town, Jinzhou District, Dalian City,
Liaoning Province
Ms. Miao Limin went to Beijing to appeal to the
government to stop persecuting practitioners of Falun
Gong and was consequently arrested, taken back toher
hometown, and detained at the Jinzhou District Detention
Center. Her husband, an army man, was forced by the army
to divorce her while she was being detained. She was
released after two months of detention. Ms. Miao was not
allowed to return to their army residence. In July 2000,
she was arrested again and sent to the Masanjia Labor
Camp in Shenyang City for a one-year term of forced
labor. Ms. Miao was released on September 25, 2001 after
serving her term in the labor camp. On September 27,
2001, she was arrested again, and was sent to the
Jinzhou District Detention Center because she refused to
renounce Falun Gong.
2. Liu Xinlan, female, resident of Shuangyang
Town, Gaomi City, Shandong Province
In July 2000, Ms. Liu Xinlan was arrested because she
intended to go to Beijing to appeal to the government to
stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. She was later
sent to the Gaomi City Detention Center and was held for
fifteen days. After her release, Ms. Liu was sent back
and supervised by the local Street Administrative
Office. Ms. Liu was told that she would not be able to
live a life free of surveillance and harassment unless
she gave up practicing Falun Gong. In particular she was
informed that if she did not renounce Falun Gong, she
would be sent to a detention center again. In addition,
they threatened to force her to sell her house and give
them the money from the sale. Her family was unable to
endure the enormous pressure. Therefore, her husband
signed a divorce agreement, and her child was forced to
sign an agreement stating that he wanted to terminate
his relationship with his mother. The whole family was
thus broken apart.
3. Wang Xia, female, resident of Shijiazhuang
City, Hebei Province
In October 2000, Ms. Wang Xia went to Beijing to appeal
to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong.
Therefore, the Qiaoxi District No. 373 Police Station
kept her under surveillance while she was still nursing
her baby who was not yet a year old. This police station
fined Ms. Wang’s family 10,000 Yuan.
In December 2000, Ms. Wang went to the central
government to appeal the injustice of the mistreatments
forced on her. She was arrested and fined 10,000 Yuan
again. Wu Fucai, the Chief of the Qiaoxi District No.
373 Police Station, coerced her husband into threatening
to divorce her if she refused to renounce Falun Gong.
Under such pressure, her husband did divorce her in
February 2001. Her baby was only a year old at that time
and is now living without a mother.
4. Tao Ye, male, 30, Principal of the Datun Town
Elementary School, Datun Town, Chaoyang District,
Changchun City, Jilin Province
In March 2001, Mr. Tao Ye was detained at an Anti-Falun
Gong Brainwashing Class at the Changchun Agricultural
School in Xinglongshan Town of Changchun City because he
practices Falun Gong. After Mr. Tao was detained, the
Datun Town Police Station fined Mr. Tao’s family 4,000
Yuan (about 10months salary of a urban worker). This put
a great deal of pressure on the family, as they lived in
poverty. There are three generations of people in Mr.
Tao’s household. Unable to endure all these pressures,
his wife divorced him, leaving his old parents and child
unattended at home. The family was torn apart. Since Mr.
Tao refused to renounce Falun Gong, he was sentenced to
forced labor at the Weizigou Labor Camp of Changchun
City.
5. Ming Yan, female, resident of Anshan City,
Liaoning Province
On December 2, 1999, Ms. Ming Yan went to Beijing to
appeal to the government to stop persecuting
practitioners of Falun Gong. She was arrested and
escorted back to Anshan City, and detained in the local
police station. On December 5, 1999, the chief of the
police station tried to strangle Ms. Ming by tying her
gauze handkerchief tightly around her neck. He didn’t
release it until she lost consciousness. He pulled out
her hair, scattering it everywhere on the ground, and
then he beat and kicked her to the point where she could
hardly breathe. The police extorted 500 Yuan from her
and then sent her to the Yuemingshan Detention Center.
After her release from the detention center on September
3, 2000, Ms. Ming was ordered to return to the police
station. At 3 o’clock, six people ransacked her home.
Ms. Ming was put into a small cell. The police tortured
her by shocking her with an electric baton, forcing her
to “ride the airplane” [with one’s head and back bent
forward at ninety degrees and two arms lifted up high
from one’s back], and then shocked the bottom of her
feet, the palms of her hands and her back.
Because Ms. Ming practices Falun Gong, her husband’s
work unit wanted to dismiss him. Under this extreme
pressure, her husband obtained a court ordered divorce.
Later, Ms. Ming left home to avoid further persecution.
6. Mei Ting, female, employee of the Jianghuai
Aerospace Equipment Manufacturing Company, Hefei City,
Anhui Province
On March 19, 2000, Ms. Mei Ting was arrested and
escorted back to Hefei City on her third trip to Beijing
to appeal. Ms. Mei was held in a detention center. On
May 17, 2000, she was sent to the Anhui Women’s Labor
Camp because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. Her
husband did not learn that she was being kept in a
forced labor camp until June2000. He realized that his
wife would not be released even when her term was over
if she did not renounce Falun Gong. Since he could not
stand the anguish, he decided to get a divorce. In
August 2000, Ms. Mei was unwillingly divorced.
7. Yang Shufang, female, 50, resident of Nan
Street, Chengguan Town, Fangshan District, Beijing
On December 6, 2000, Ms. Yang Shufang was dragged from
her home, put into a police vehicle and taken to the
local police station because local authorities suspected
she might go to Beijing to appeal to the government to
stop persecuting Falun Gong. Consequently, she was sent
to the Zhoukoudian Mental Hospital, Beijing. Ms. Yang’s
family was not notified of her detention. Her detention
seems to be indefinite because she was not told when she
would be released. Since Ms. Yang could not go home and
take care of her children, her husband requested a
divorce.
8. Wang Hongyan, female, resident of Qiqihar
City, Heilongjiang Province
Ms. Wang Hongyan was detained at the Shuanghe Labor Camp
of Qiqihar City because she practiced Falun Gong.
Officials at the Shuanghe Labor Camp wrote a letter to
her husband, Chen Jun, to encourage him to coerce his
wife into renouncing Falun Gong by threatening her with
divorce. Since she still refused to renounce Falun Gong,
her husband in fact divorced her against her will.
9. Wang Hongyu, female, resident of Beima Town,
Longkou City, Shandong Province
In early February 2000, Ms. Wang Hongyu was arrested by
police officers of the Longkou City Police Station due
to practicing Falun Gong. In order to publicly humiliate
her, Ms. Wang was paraded through the streets handcuffed
as a convict and was then sent to a detention center.
During her detention, she was beaten and had cold water
poured on her as physical punishment. The local
authorities forced her husband to divorce her. The court
did the paperwork and granted the divorce without her
knowledge.
10. Liu Wenli, male, resident of Qianliu Village,
Minghua Town, Nangong City, Hebei Province
Mr. Liu Wenli went to Beijing to appeal to the
government to end the persecution of Falun Gong
practitioners. He was arrested and held at the Beijing
Detention Center. During his detention, he was beaten,
and his leg was broken during the beating. Later he was
sent back to Nangong City in Hebei Province and detained
at the Nangong City Detention Center. During the
detention, he was repeatedly beaten and shocked with an
electric baton. The policemen stripped off all Mr. Liu’s
clothes and dragged him out onto the snowy ground,
leaving him to freeze in the cold for over ten hours.
Since Mr. Liu refused to renounce Falun Gong, he was
then sentenced to three-years of forced labor, and was
sent to Handan City. An official of the Minghua Town
Government threatened Mr. Liu’s wife and their
ten-year-old son with arrest. They also burned Mr. Liu’s
40 wooded acres that his family depended upon for fuel.
Mr. Liu’s family was fined and their home was ransacked
many times. Also, an official forced Mr. Liu’s wife to
divorce him. His family was told that he was being
detained at a forced labor camp in Handan City, but his
family was not able to find him there. Mr. Liu’s
whereabouts are uncertain.
11. Dong Xiumei, female, 35, teacher at the
Changshan Town Junior High School, Changshan Town,
Qianguo County, Songyuan City, Jilin Province
On February 28, 2000, Ms. Dong Xiumei went to Beijing to
appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong.
She was arrested and escorted back to her hometown, and
was sent to the Qianguo County Detention Center by
police officer Wu Dongxu. She was held for 20 days at
the Qianguo County Detention Center. The Changshan Town
Police Station also took 3,600 Yuan from her wages in
the guise of “police station fees.”
Because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, Ms. Dong was
detained multiple times at an Anti-Falun Gong
Brainwashing Class that was held by the Changshan Town
Government. Each time, Ms. Dongwas only released after
paying a fine of 1,000 Yuan. Then her work unit fired
her because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. Ms.
Dong’s husband later divorced her for fear of being
persecuted. She has no income and thus has become
homeless. |
Police Burned a Ten-Year-Old with Cigarettes |
Xiao Hong, 10, and Xiao Rui,
12, residents of Shandong Province
In May 2000, two young practitioners, a ten-year-old
boy, Xiao Hong, and a twelve-year-old girl, Xiao Rui,
went to Beijing with their mother to appeal to the
central government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong
practitioners. On May 7, 2000, the two young
practitioners and their mother were arrested and
escorted back to their hometown in Shandong Province.
They were detained at their local county government
office. The two young practitioners were slapped and
beaten by Police Officer Wang from the local county
government and the police chief from the local police
station. The police chief beat Xiao Hong’ ships with a
stick and asked if he still wanted to practice Falun
Gong. Xiao Hong still answered yes so the police chief
continued to beat him. The police chief used cigarette
butts to burn Xiao Hong’s hands. Despite his loud cries
because of the severe pain, the police chief still kept
up this wicked torture. The two children were tortured
for most of the afternoon.
