Ms. Wang Xiuzhen, female, 62, resident of Zhangguantun Village, Baoguantun Town, Nanpi County, Cangzhou City, Hebei Province.

Ms. Wang started to practice Falun Gong in March of 1998. After practicing for six months, the chronic cough and the difficulty she had in breathing were gone. She had no need for medication and was no longer bedridden.

Since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, authorities from the Village Party Committee and Township Government constantly harassed Ms. Wang. In January 2001, the police from the Nanpi County Police Station arrested her along other practitioners and detained them. During her detention, guards tortured her and extorted 6,500 Yuan from her family. Ms. Wang was released on January 23, 2001.

However, the persecution did not stop, the local authorities went to her home many times. They often harassed and threatened her, confiscated her personal belongings and tried to force her to give up Falun Gong.

She suffered much from the persecution, and it affected her health. Ms. Wang passed away under the consistent harassments and pressure on August 5, 2001.
