Mr. Zhai Zhen, male, 49, resident of Tumenzi Village, Tumenzi Township, Qinglong County, Hebei Province.
In 1999, because the government banned practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Zhai went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. After that, the local government and the local police often went to his home to harass and threatened him. They detained him because he refused to give up Falun Gong. In the detention center, the guards flogged him with a leather whip a few dozen times, which made his skin turned black.
On January 19, 2003, the Tumenzi Police Station Director, Liu Yanwen, the Village Party Secretary, Yang Junsheng, and others harassed him at home. They confiscated all of his Falun Gong books and materials.
Due to the constant threats and harassment, his health deteriorated. He died on April 7, 2003.
