Zou
Yanjie, male, lived in
the Railroad Workers Community at the Halahai Township in Nong'an County, Jilin
Province. On November 8, 2000, Mr. Zou and his wife, Ms. Ye Mingzhu, went to
Beijing to appeal to the Chinese government to stop the persecution of Falun
Gong. They were arrested and sent back to his hometown. The officials of the
Nong’an County Politics and Security Department detained them for one month and
then sent them to a forced labor camp for one year. While they were imprisoned,
Chen Shufeng, the secretary of the Railroad Workers Community, led several
people to ransack their home and confiscate their personal
belongings.
After Mr. Zou and
Ms. Ye were released from the camp, at 8:00 p.m. on December 20, 2001, policemen
from the Halahai Township Station, including Wang Shiquan, the Director of the
police substation, Zhang Enfeng, Zhai, Liu, and Li Dazhuang, broke into their
home and searched it. They beat up Mr. Zou, confiscated some Falun Gong
materials and the VCR, and brought him, his wife and his mother to the police
substation.
In order to avoid
further beatings, Mr. Zou escaped from the police station. However, he got lost
in the dense woods. He did not have anything to eat or drink for over ten days.
He was forced to endure the harsh winter weather, and his hands and feet became
seriously frostbitten. Later, someone found him and called the Wangfu Township
Police Station in Songyuan City, Jilin Province. The police came and arrested
him. Even though he was weak and in need of medical care, they interrogated him,
and tried to force him to renounce Falun Gong. Mr. Zou refused. He was detained
for one day and then transferred to the Police Bureau in Songyuan City. The
police there again tried to force him to renounce Falun Gong and he still
refused. They saw that he was extremely weak and threw him out.
Mr.
Zou managed to get in touch with his sister, who came and took him home. Because
his feet were seriously frostbitten, and he had not received any care, they had
to be amputated. After Mr. Zou became handicapped, the police still harassed
him, eventually, he was forced to leave home to avoid recapture and further
persecution. type=Case, health; |
