Mr. Pan Jianjun, 33 years old, was a college graduate from Fangziya Village, Madipin Town, Yuangling County, Hunan Province. He was detained in 2000 when he went to Beijing to appeal for the end to the persecution of Falun Gong. Around the end of 2001, when he was visiting a friend's house, the local police arrested him and sentenced him to 3 years of forced labor at Xinkaipu forced labor camp in Changsha. Later, his term was extended to 4 years without any legal procedure. He was then transferred to the No.2 detention center in Huaihua City.
When Mr. Jianjun was seen in the No.2 detention center at Huaihua in August 2003, he was as thin as a skeleton. He could not stand straight and had suffered severe injuries. Two months later he went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. His term was extended to 7 years, and he was taken to the Jinshi Prison in Changde City. One time, Mr. Pan lost consciousness, but regained it when the prison authorities were about to send him to be cremated. He was placed in the "strictly monitored brigade" of Section 6 in Jinshi Prison and was tortured. In the winter of 2003, he was transferred to a forced labor farm in Xiangnan for further persecution. On February 5, 2004, the prison sent a notice to his family members saying, "Pan Jianjun is dead." type = case, death; type = case, torture; type = Detention
