Two Female Practitioners Tortured to the Verge of Death During Hunger Strikes at the Kaiping Distric
Print  E-mail

Victims:

1.      Song Guixian, female, 39, a farmer from Tumenzi Village, Tumenzi Township, Qinglong County, Hebei Province

2.      Hui Zhiyi, female, 60, resident of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province

Description:

Ms. Song Guixian was arrested and sent to the Kaiping District Labor Camp (also called Hebei Province First Labor Camp) in June 2002 because she practiced Falun Gong. During her detention, she went on a hunger strike without water for more than four months to protest the detention. During her hunger strike, the guards force-fed her. Because she did not cooperate with the force-feeding, they dragged her by her hair, pulled her ears, forced her to the ground, beat and kicked her, and deprived her of sleep. One day, after she had been on the hunger strike for over 90 days, because she said ‘Falun Gong is good’, a group of guards pulled her outside and tied her to a tree. Team leader Jia Hongmei ordered six guards to take turns slapping her face for more than two hours, causing her to pass out and her face to swell, turning black and blue. When Ms. Song had been on a hunger strike for over 100 days, she was beaten down to the ground by the camp hospital director, named Wang, simply because she did not co-operate with a blood pressure test. As a result, she passed out again, and was sent to the emergency room for medical treatment. After she had recovered a little, she was forced to watch films and videos and read books defaming Falun Gong. Guards ordered inmates to torture and beat her. Inmates pinched her face with their sharp nails and scraped her face to the point of bleeding. Inmate Tu Ruying tied her to a bed, slapped her face, scraped her ankle with a hairbrush for a long time, used a glass bottle to beat her anklebones (causing both feet to bleed, making her unable to walk), and used dirty and smelly rags to cover her mouth fastened with her hair (which was pulled forcefully). Inmates folded up both her legs, tied her arms tightly, and forced her to sit on the concrete floor for hours, causing her even more difficulty walking afterwards. Ms. Song’s current situation is unknown.

Ms. Hui Zhiyi was arrested and sent to the Kaiping District Labor in July 2002 because she practices Falun Gong. Ms. Hui went on a hunger strike without water for more than 110 days to protest the detention. During her hunger strike, Team Leader Zhou ordered more than 60 people to take turns brainwashing her for more than one month. Ms. Hui was deprived of sleep and was forced to stand up during nights. As a result,  both her legs were swollen (making it hard to walk) and she lost at least 25 kg. The police thought that she could not stand it any more and therefore allowed her to sleep for few hours after midnight. Ms. Hui’s current condition is unknown.
