Ms. Yu Yuejin is a 48-year-old mother from Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. In March of 2003, the police arrested her because she practiced Falun Gong and sent her to the Harbin City Wanjia Labor Camp for a three-year term. Ms. Yu’s husband was also imprisoned, and so the police sent their four-year-old daughter to Nangang District Children’s Welfare Center (an orphanage) in Harbin City.
After Ms. Yu was arrested, a police officer first took her daughter to his own home, but later sent the girl to Harbin City Children’s Welfare Center. Ms. Yu repeatedly asked the perpetrators if she could see her daughter and check on her welfare. Because of her strong requests, the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp allowed her to visit her daughter in the orphanage. She found that her daughter acted as if she were in a daze and could not recognize her, due to the serious psychological trauma resulting from the sudden loss of her mother's care and the change in living environment.
After having contacted Harbin City Nangang Police Department (86-451-82324435) and being told that Yu Yuejin’s daughter had been sent to the orphanage, a newspaper reporter called the only Children’s Welfare Center in Harbin City (86-451-86624717), identifying himself as Ms. Yu Yuejin’s friend. The receptionist said that the orphaned girl was all right, but one had to contact the police if one wanted to pay a visit, as it was the police who had placed her there.
Ms. Yu is still being detained in the labor camp, and is suffering both mental and physical trauma. She is subjected to frequent torture because she refuses to give up Falun Gong. The perpetrators are Zhao Yuqing (deputy team leader), Yao Changfu (deputy team leader), Yang Guohong (deputy team leader), Jia Cuiyan and Zhou Muqi. The torture methods include: shocking her with electric batons, forcing her to sit on an electrified chair, slandering and threatening her, and other abuses. Due to the torture, Ms. Yu developed a serious heart problem and high blood pressure. Despite her critical physical condition, Wu Hongxun, the division head of Wanjia Labor Camp, nonetheless instructed the guards to force Ms. Yu to do hard labor. type=Case, Children; location=Heilongjiang, Harbin; |
