Ms. Qi Shuyan, female, 47, is a resident of Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province. In 2001, Ms. Qi went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. She was arrested and sent to the Jiamusi Labor Camp. For the first two months of her detention, she was locked in a small room; she could not see anything outside the room or leave the room at all.
In October 2001, team leader He Qiang saw Ms. Qi practicing the Falun Gong exercises and punished her by slapping her face hard, causing damage to the hearing in her left ear.
In late April 2002, police officer Yin Hong forcibly handcuffed Ms. Qi for a week. In another incident, police officer Hong Wei went into Ms. Qi’s cell, violently dragged her to the floor, and then began kicking and slapping her. Afterwards, he handcuffed her to the bed for a week.
In mid-October, police officer Gao Jie took Ms. Qi to the second floor and tortured her for three hours by handcuffing one hand over her shoulder and the other hand up from her lower back. This torture, known as "the big handcuff", was used repeatedly on her.
In June 2003, due to fatigue, Ms. Qi fell asleep against a wall during forced labor. Police officer Hong Wei saw her sleeping, kicked her, and then sent her for the "big handcuff."
Starting in July 2003, Ms. Qi was forced to sit on an uncomfortable little stool for more than two months because she refused to denounce Falun Gong. After that she was handcuffed again using the "big handcuff" method. It was in the middle of summer, and she was not allowed to change her clothes, shower, or brush her teeth. |
