Li Shouqiang, male, 37, a resident of Wusheng Dongli, employee of the Beijing Automobile General Assembly Plant, Chaoyang District, Beijing

On March 8, 2000, Mr. Li Shouqiang was arrested for appealing to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. He was sent to the Changping Detention Center in Beijing, where he was tortured. Police added large doses of drugs to Mr. Li’s drink. The drugs seriously damaged his central nervous system.

On the evening of March 18, 2000, the Panjiayuan Branch Police Station called Mr. Li’s family and asked them to pick him up. Mr. Li was confined in an iron cage when his brother and mother saw him. On the way home, Mr. Li was unable to speak clearly. He told them disjointedly that the police had put drugs in his drink and forced him to drink it. He was not allowed to spit it out or drink water. The police declared that the drug would make him die in two days. After he returned home, Mr. Li looked dazed and could not think normally. There were wounds on the back of his

neck, lower back and on both sides of his thighs. On the morning of March 20, 2000, just as the police predicted, Mr. Li died.
