Female Practitioners Tortured for Distributing Flyers in Hubei Province

Yang Dingying, female, 38, is a resident of Bailong Village, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. In December 1999, because she practiced Falun Gong outdoors, she was arrested and taken to a detention center by the Security Section of the Fourth Machinery Company. She was tortured by guards during her detention. She was released after 15 days of detention. In July 2000, the Yulukou Police Station detained her for another 15 days. In October 2001, she was arrested while she was talking about Falun Gong to people on street. She was once again detained at the Yulukou Police Station. She was abused and subjected to sleep deprivation. Since she refused to her  give up the practice of Falun Gong, after eight months of detention, she was sentenced to one year at the Second Brigade of the Shayang Labor Camp. In the camp, she had to work for long hours. In the evening, she was forced to ready the brainwashing materials. Physical abuse was a daily routine, and it included sitting on small stools for the entire day, and various other inhumane treatment.

 

Zhu Jiayan, female, 40, is a resident of Bailong Village, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. In December 1999, because she practiced Falun Gong outdoors, she was arrested and taken to a detention center by the Security Section of the Fourth Machinery Company. Guards tortured her during her detention. She was released after 15 days of detention. In July 2000, the Yulukou Police Station detained her for another 15 days. In October 2001, she was arrested while distributing Falun Gong flyers. She was not allowed to sleep for several nights. She was handcuffed for about half a month and severely tortured. She started a hunger strike to protest the inhuman treatment, and was then forced-fed and abused for 40. After eight months of detention, she was sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp in June 2002, and sent to the Ninth Brigade of the Shayang Labor Camp. In the camp, guards, together with inmates, beat her and not allow she sleep.  Since she refused to give up her belief, on the day she was released, a group of inmates slapped her face with slippers and stuffed her mouth with dirty cloth, which made her face swell and bleed. They clamored that they would beat her to death that day. After being released, Ms. Zhu was taken to the Shashi brainwashing center on October 31, 2002. One month later, she was detained in a detention center for another two months. On February 21, 2003, she was escorted to the Wuhan brainwashing center. While she was there, four inmates took turns torturing her every day, trying to force her to renounce Falun Gong. Her body was black and blue. This type of abuse lasted over 20 days.

 

Yang Yufang, female, 38, is an employee of the Jingzhou City Towel Factory, Hubei Province. In May 2001, someone reported to the local authorities that she distributed Falun Gong materials. The police staked out the area of her residence to arrest her. They also went to her son's school to coerce the 9-year-old boy to lie and say that his mom had abused him. They also ransacked her home. She was forced to leave home and look for alternate work. Later, she was arrested, and she is still being subjected to severe physical abuse. She is very weak right now, and no family visits are allowed.

 

Liu Yanqiong, female, 38, is an employee of the Jingzhou City Towel Factory, Hubei Province. After July 20, 1999, she was arrested for trying to go to Beijing. She was detained for six months and tortured many times. Later, her employer was forced to bail her out. After she returned to the factory, she was abducted by the police again in May 2001 and suffered various tortures. She was sent to a forced labor camp, where she has been held ever since.
