A Brief Report of the Incident:

In early 2000, Ms. Zhang Deyi was arrested and detained in the No. 1 Labor Camp of Hebei province because of practicing Falun Gong. On May 23, she started a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. On July 4, 2000, she was sent to Tangshan city Mental Hospital. Ms. Zhang was badly tortured in the hospital. She was force-fed and the feeding tube was left in her body for such a long time that it caused her throat to fester. She was injected with drugs that destroyed her nervous system. In addition, the mental hospital attendants administered the electric shock treatment to Ms. Zhang.
